Recreational Vehicle (RV) Classifications

Class A RV

Integrated - (Class A Motorhomes)

Class A motorhomes are integrated RVs that are larger and have a driver cab and living quarters that are connected. Modern Class A RVs have convertible living spaces with mechanical push button levers that can convert lounge areas to sleeping spaces. Higher end coaches also typically have modern electronics, GPS, etc.

Class B RV

Camper Vans - (Class B Campers)

Class B Campers are RVs that can either be specifically made for camping of converted from a classic or modern passenger van. Specifically built Camper Vans are built on a standard van chassis and typically have more integrated living features. Most Class B RVs are less than 20 feet in length for better mobility.

Class C RV

Alcove - (Class C RVs)

Alcove motorhomes are C Class coachbuilt mini-motorhomes that typically have a double berth over the driving cab ("cab-over") and a caravan style body. Lengths can range widely from 22 to 35 feet and typically have similar scaled down accommodations seen in a large full size coach.

Motorhome History & Brands

Motorhomes have their roots prior to World War II however they truly burst onto the American automotive and recreational scene in the 1950s surging in popularity during the 60s and 70s carrying on until today. In the beginning the most popular motorhome manufacturers or brands were Dormobile, Paralanian and Westfalia.
